American Red Cross Mission

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.


The Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.

NORTHWEST LOUISIANA CHAPTER AMERICAN RED CROSS
ANNUAL REPORT FOR FY07

This report summarizes the services provided by the Northwest Louisiana Chapter for FY05 which is July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. Our ten-parish service area includes Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, Natchitoches, Lincoln, Sabine, Desoto, Claiborne, Webster and Red River Parishes. Our Executive Director is E. Reid Brau. A complete set of audited financial statements is available for review.

Disaster Relief and Community Disaster Education
When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross is there. This year we responded to 197 local disasters. We helped more than 472 affected individuals and families with emergency food, shelter and supplies.

Because being prepared can make your family and community safer and sometimes minimize injury and destruction, we made disaster education presentations to more than 979 people in the community.

Single Family Fire Cases helped:       197 Cases
Specific Disasters included:                Tornadoes and Flooding in Natchitoches and Sabine Parishes; Gas Well Explosion in Bethany.
Total Clients Served:                             472 Clients
Preparedness Training Completed:    32 Courses taught to 979 Enrollees


Services to Military Families (Armed Forces Emergency Services)
The American Red Cross provides communication between those in the Armed Forces and their families. We have a worldwide network that reaches service members wherever they are to communicate a birth, death or illness. This year we provided emergency connections for 842 military families. In addition to these services, the Red Cross also provides other assistance, through facilitating loans to service members, offering aid to retirees, visiting VA hospitals, and through our work on Barksdale Air Force Base.

Health & Safety Services
From first aid, CPR and AED training to babysitting and lifeguarding, American Red Cross programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. This year, 13,041 individuals learned lifesaving skills through 1,245 classes offered by the chapter.

First Aid & CPR Training:                  1,245 Courses taught to 10,984 Enrollees
Aquatics Training:                               347 Courses taught to 3,146 Enrollees
Mission Related Training Offered:     5 Courses taught to 54 Enrollees
(This includes Babysitting)
Course Administration and
Instruction Training:                             10 Courses taught to 66 Enrollees
Enrollment for all Courses Offered:   13,041 Clients
Individual Direct Services:                  20,900 Participants in Events and/or Presentations
(This includes Health Fairs, Youth Peer Education, Community Presentations, etc.)


Volunteers and Youth Services
We depend on volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to carry on our work. Volunteers constitute 97 percent of our total workforce, serving as members of the board, instructors teaching lifesaving skills, disaster action team members, office administrators, event organizers and more.

This year, 2,277 volunteers made the work of the chapter possible, contributing more than 5,000 hours, for a contribution estimated at $25,000.

The Board of Directors meets quarterly (January, April, August & October) at noon at the American Red Cross office to discuss official business of the American Red Cross. The Annual Meeting is held in April.
